Permission is granted to information services, bulletin boards, and user's groups who distribute software WITHOUT CHARGE (other than membership or connect fees) to make Bat Filer available to their users and/or members, either by downloading or copying onto user-provided disks, PROVIDED the Bat Filer program and files are unaltered and retain all copyright and shareware messages, and author information.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is permission granted to distribute Bat Filer on disk for a fee. This applies to all organizations, user's groups, commercial enterprises, not-for-profit organizations or otherwise. If you would like to distribute Bat Filer on disk, you must obtain a Limited Distribution License. Such licenses are non-exclusive, and have a variable cost not greater than $100.00. Bat Filer is distributed under the SHAREWARE system. Those interested in trying the program can obtain a copy from bulletin boards and users groups. If you or your company find the program useful, I ask that you send in a registration fee. In essence, shareware is "try before you buy" software. Registered users receive a copy of the Bat Filer documentation and notice of upgrades. The cost to register a single copy of Bat Filer is $30.00 US.
If you do not choose to register as a Bat Filer user, I ask that you delete all your copies of the Bat Filer program and files. Some people remark about shareware - "I use it, but not often enough to warrant paying." A utility program like Bat Filer by its very nature is not used every day - but that one time you need it, you really need it. The rule of thumb I suggest is you compare the value of your time multiplied by time saved using Bat Filer, versus the registration fee. If you value your time at $20 an hour, and Bat Filer saves a half hour of time a week (over what it would take to do the same file operations using the Finder plus other DAs, etc), then in less than a month the cost of registration has justified itself.

The Bat Filer program is not disabled or trapped in any way. Its sole requirement is that the file "Shareware Info" must be present in the same folder as the Bat Filer application.

If your group or company plans to use Bat Filer on several Macs at once, you must license all the copies you plan to use. The costs for licensing multiple copies of Bat Filer are:
1 copy : $30.00
2 - 5 copies : $20.00 per copy
6 - 29 copies : $17.00 per copy
30 or more copies : $500.00
Registration entitles you to a copy of the Bat Filer documentation - and the right to duplicate it as necessary if you register multiple copies - plus notification of upgrades.

To print this text, or the Bat Filer registration form, you must have a printer on-line and selected in the Chooser. If no printer is selected, or you wish to change printers, click the "Done" button, select the Chooser from the Apple menu and make your selection, then select "Shareware Info" from the Specials menu once again.
Click the "Page Setup" button and choose whatever options you prefer (on the ImageWriter, the form prints best with "Tall Adjusted" selected). Click "Print Form" to print the form, click "Print Text" to print this information. Press [Command]-[period] to abort printing in progress, if desired.

Bat Filer "Specials" make it easy for Macintosh programmers to do custom file processing without having to write an entire application. Specials can easily be written in any development system that can create stand-alone code resources. If you would like to write your own Bat Filer specials, sample Pascal source code is available. Check the appropriate box on the registration form.
